Who or What is Volterre-Fr?

Linda at the computer

Before I answer that, welcome to Volterre-Fr and enjoy your glass of virtual French champagne!

So, what's Volterre-Fr? It is, first of all, a play on words from the French. Un vol is a trip on an airplane and terre is the earth. I think of Volterre as a trip around the world -- in cyberspace.

Volterre also sounds just like Voltaire, the famous French philosopher; hence a link to France, my adopted country since 1980.

I originally created Volterre-Fr as a resource for teachers and learners of English in France. Very quickly realizing that there was a need to include links to the rest of the world, I created email, internet projects and web links. I'm now expanding Volterre-Fr to include resources for learning and teaching French, and discovering wonderful resources en français.

Originally from Eugene, Oregon, USA, I have a background in Sociology, German, Linguistics and TEFL. I've lived in Europe most of my adult life and have taught English as a Foreign Language in France, the U.K. and Germany.

You can look at my C.V. at http://www.volterre-fr.com/lindathalman-cv.html for the "offical" story.

I feel fortunate to be part of the Digital Revolution and am now Director of WebFrance International, a Web creation and hosting company located in Boullay les Troux, France. (Don't laugh too hard at the name if you understand French!)

  • What I like most about the Internet: meeting new people from around the world.

  • What I like the least on the Web: blinking tags, black backgrounds and under construction signs.

Volterre-Fr would never have seen the light of day without the encouragement and help of some very special people cited in my September 1995 Editor's Choice.

And many thanks to Robert Pickens and Christine Meloni who've written about Volterre-Fr

    • Transatlantic American Online
      March-April 1997, Number 11
Published by Robert Pickens III "From the classroom to the Internet to promote France's best"

    • Wandering the Web by Christine Meloni http://www.tesol.edu/pubs/magz/wanweb.html
in the Tesol International web site at http://www.tesol.edu The February 1997 issue features Volterre-Fr and other great Web resources.

    Hoping you enjoy Volterre-Fr!

    Warmest regards,

    Linda
