Tesol France, No. 13, May 1996
Linda Thalman

Where should teachers of English in France new to the Internet start? Well, why not begin by subscribing to one or more of the excellent email forums. You'll get your virtual feet wet and be a part of a worldwide teachers' room.

Subscribing simply means registering: you don't pay to be part of an email forum. You can lurk (simply read and enjoy) or ask questions and give your opinion on threads (or topics) which come up. Try not to flame (insult) anyone especially if you're a Newbie (new to the Net). You may feel like you're learning a whole new language too.

Once you have an email account either through your school, business or at home, I suggest that you subscribe to TESL-L, NETEACH-L or WWWEDU -- maybe not all the same day as your mailbox just might overflow.

Subscribe to NETEACH-L at:
listserv@thecity.sfsu.edu
In the body of your message type:
subscribe NETEACH-L

Subscribe to TESL-L at:
listserv@cunyvm.cuny.edu or listserv@cunyvm.bitnet
In the body of the message type:
SUB TESL-L your-first-name your-last-name

Subscribe to WWWEDU at:
listproc@educom.unc.edu
In the body of the message write:
subscribe wwwedu your name

If you're teaching English to engineers or scientists, be sure to consult EST, English for Science and Technology at http://www.wfi.fr/est/est1.html and join the EST-L email list.

Subscribe to EST-L at:
listserv@asuvm.inre.asu.edu
