AGREG and CAPES French Competitive Exams / AGREG et CAPES
Page d'anglais et d'agrégation
http://agreg-ink.net/sahai/
Email Jean at sharad@outremer.comEditor's Note: The Agrégation d'anglais topic is due to the very energetic work of Jean-Samuel Sahaï in Guadeloupe. The Apache Page d'Agreg, started back in 1996 after we met in Paris for the 1996 TESOL conference and discussed the need for the old training methods to be replaced by technological tools.
The site is still full of practical resources, links, comments and information useful to those preparing for Agreg and CAPES.
Although widely acclaimed in Metropolitan France, where many agrégés swear they owe their exam success to its help, and the university teachers use as a resource for their own preparation and recommend it to their students, Jean-S. Sahaï's titanic effort remained invisible to the Académie of Guadeloupe authority. So far Jean, born in 1947, has received no credit or recognition for his huge pionnering cyber-work. His simple comment on this situation is: "mais nul n'est prophète en son pays, même aux Antilles..."
In addition to the Agreg and CAPES preparation support, the site is a mine of information on the recent evolutions of English teaching in France, voyages linguistiques, TPE, Espaces-Langues, anglais au primaire, etc. even the needs of handicapped students and teachers are covered, with a zest of zen humour that only a well-documented wired teacher living in the French West Indies could have enough distance from uptight Paris to produce.
Most surprising is the fact that the author is not yet an agrégé himself, but in his own words "un simple professeur de Lycée Professionnel, admissible une fois à l'agreg interne"!
After trying for 6 years Jean-S. gave up sitting for the agreg in 2003, one reason being the inadaptation of the competitive exam to the real needs of teachers and school students, another the great disparity of the available academic preparation lectures in European France and the overseas islands.
The Page d'agreg site remains a vast resource for all teachers of English in the French system. Jean-S. Sahaî cheerfully recommends the work recently started by Christelle André on the new site Agreg-ink http://agreg-ink.net/
